Is Boston College Harder to Get Into Than Northeastern University?

Wondering where to toss your college applications? Are you navigating the maze of Boston’s higher education? Well, buckle up because we’re diving into the good ol’ rivalry between Boston College (BC) and Northeastern University (NU)! Let’s unveil which school’s admissions process might feel like climbing a mountain and which one is more like a stroll through the park.

The Short Answer: BC is tougher to get into

From my experience—and many other applicants would nod in agreement—Boston College tends to be the trickier of the two when it comes to admissions. With its strong academic reputation and limited application numbers influenced by its Catholic heritage, BC’s selectivity often overshadows Northeastern’s.

Now, let’s break it down! Boston College has typically lower acceptance rates than Northeastern, thanks to its rich academic tradition and a mission steeped in Jesuit values, which attracts a large pool of aspiring students. Each year, they receive thousands of applications for a limited number of spots, creating what feels like a ” Hunger Games” scenario for eager high schoolers. Combine this with their focus on holistic admissions—considering not just grades but also extracurriculars, essays, and recommendations—and you get a competitive beast!

Northeastern, on the other hand, boasts its own shining star in the form of its co-op program, attracting many students eager for real-world experience. While definitely not a walk in the park, Northeastern’s acceptance rates tend to be a bit more generous compared to BC. They welcome a diverse and talented group of students looking to thrive in a practical learning environment.

So, if you’re dreaming about BC, dust off that application with a can-do attitude and a killer personal statement—because you’ll need all the magic you can muster to break through that selective admissions gate! Both schools offer fantastic opportunities and experiences, but for those with a competitive spirit aiming for BC, the challenge ranks a little higher.
