Is There a Lacrosse Team at Liberty University? (Spoiler Alert: It’s Complicated)

Let’s be honest, folks, you’re here because you’re probably a lacrosse fan who’s thinking about Liberty University. Maybe you’re a prospective student, maybe you’re just curious, maybe you’re a parent trying to figure out where to send your kid so they can dominate the lacrosse field and still be surrounded by the comforting presence of Jesus. Whatever the reason, you want to know: Does Liberty University have a lacrosse team?

Well, buckle up buttercup, because the answer is… it’s a bit of a mixed bag.

Here’s the deal: Liberty University doesn’t have a varsity lacrosse team, meaning it doesn’t compete in the NCAA Division I or any other NCAA division. However, Liberty does have a club lacrosse team, and we’re not talking about a bunch of guys who met at a local coffee shop and decided to call themselves a team. This is a serious, competitive club team. Think of it like the varsity team’s cooler, less-structured, but equally passionate cousin.

So, why no varsity team? Well, that’s a question for the powers that be at Liberty, but here’s my (totally unbiased and definitely not based on wild speculation) take:

  • The Big “C” Factor: Liberty University is known for its strong Christian values. Now, I’m not saying that lacrosse is inherently un-Christian, but there’s definitely a certain image that the school wants to maintain. Maybe they just haven’t found a way to reconcile lacrosse with their vision of a “wholesome” athletic program. After all, who wants to see their kids celebrating a goal by doing the “Lacrosse Dance?” (Don’t worry, I’m sure there’s a perfectly acceptable Christian alternative).
  • Budget Blues: Let’s be honest, sports are expensive. Maybe Liberty’s focus is on building up their already successful varsity programs. A lacrosse team, even a club team, still requires funding for equipment, travel, and coaching. Maybe they’re simply trying to stretch their budget as far as it can go. Or maybe they just want to save those funds for the next big Christian rock concert. Who knows?
  • The “We’re Not Quite Ready” Factor: Maybe Liberty’s thinking, “We’ll get there eventually, but we need to build our program up a little more first.” They might be waiting for the perfect moment to announce a varsity lacrosse team, like the day their football team wins the national championship, or the day they finally find a way to make Christian rock music sound cool.

But let’s focus on what we do know, which is that Liberty’s got a pretty darn impressive club lacrosse team. They’ve got a dedicated website, a roster full of talented players, and a Facebook page with some genuinely hilarious photos. (Seriously, go check it out, you’ll find a picture of the team looking like they’re about to conquer Mount Everest with their lacrosse sticks).

Here’s what makes the Liberty University Club Lacrosse Team stand out:

  • They Take Lacrosse Seriously: This isn’t your average pick-up game at the park. These guys are serious about their lacrosse. They’ve got a structured practice schedule, they play against other college club teams, and they’ve got their sights set on reaching the national championships.
  • They’re Tight-Knit Community: The club lacrosse team is more than just a group of guys who share a love for the sport. They’re a community, a family, and they’re all in it together, win or lose. They’ve got a sense of brotherhood, and it shows in the way they support each other on and off the field.
  • They’re Not Afraid to Have Fun: Despite their competitive nature, these guys know how to have a good time. They’re always up for a laugh, and they’ve got a contagious energy that’s hard to resist. They’re a reminder that even the most serious athletes can still enjoy themselves.

So, if you’re looking for a way to get involved in lacrosse at Liberty University, the club team is definitely the place to be. You’ll get to play the sport you love, meet some amazing people, and maybe even learn a thing or two about the Christian faith.

But here’s the thing: If you’re hoping to see Liberty University become a lacrosse powerhouse, you might have to wait a little longer. The school’s got its own vision, and for now, that doesn’t include a varsity lacrosse team.

But hey, who knows? Maybe one day, Liberty University will be known not just for its football team, but also for its lacrosse team. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll even have a Christian rock band that can play the national anthem before each game. Now that would be something.

In the meantime, go check out the Liberty University Club Lacrosse Team. They might just surprise you.
