Does Kelley School of Business Accept the Common App? (The Short Answer: It’s Complicated!)

Let’s be honest, applying to college can feel like navigating a labyrinth with a blindfold. You’re bombarded with application platforms, deadlines, essays, and a whole lot of stress. And then there’s the question that haunts your dreams: “Does Kelley School of Business accept the Common App?”

The answer, my friend, is a resounding “YES, BUT…”

Hold on tight, because we’re about to dive into the wacky world of college admissions.

The Deets:

Indiana University Bloomington, the proud home of the legendary Kelley School of Business, is a Common App supporter. Hooray! But before you get too excited, there’s a twist.

The “But” is a Big One

Kelley doesn’t actually look at your Common App application. Yep, you read that right. While you can use the Common App to apply to Indiana University, Kelley does its own separate review. Think of it like a secret society, only instead of handshakes, they have spreadsheets and GPA requirements.

Here’s the rundown:

  • You can use the Common App to apply to Indiana University, but to get into Kelley, you’ll need to submit a separate application. This includes your GPA, test scores, transcripts, and answers to a few juicy, soul-searching questions.
  • Kelley only considers your application after you’ve been admitted to Indiana University. So, you’ve got to make a good first impression with your IU application.
  • Direct Admission (the holy grail of Kelley applicants): If you’re a high school senior with stellar grades and test scores, you might be eligible for direct admission to Kelley. This means you get to skip the whole separate application process and jump right into the business world.

The Direct Admission Playbook

To be considered for direct admission, you need to:

  • Have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. (Hey, they’re looking for business-minded individuals, not slackers!)
  • Nail those standardized tests. A minimum SAT score of 1170 (with a Math score of 530 or higher) or an ACT composite score of 24 (with a Math score of 21 or higher) will get you in the running.

What if you don’t meet the direct admission requirements?

Don’t despair! You can still apply to Kelley after your first year at IU. It’s like a second chance, but with a lot more pressure (and probably a lot more coffee). The Kelley application process will involve essays, recommendation letters, and a whole lot of finger-crossing.

The Bottom Line: Common App, But Not Quite.

Applying to Kelley School of Business is a two-step process, kind of like ordering a pizza with extra cheese and then realizing you forgot to add pepperoni. It’s a little more complicated than just checking a box on the Common App.

Here’s a quick cheat sheet:

  • Applies to Indiana University: Common App or Apply IU Application
  • Applies to Kelley School of Business: Separate Kelley application after being admitted to Indiana University

So, what’s the best strategy?

  • If you’re a high school senior with a strong academic record, aim for direct admission to Kelley. It’s the easiest way to get in, and it’ll save you a lot of stress.
  • If you don’t meet the direct admission requirements, don’t give up! Apply to Indiana University and then apply to Kelley after your first year. You’ve got this!

Remember, the admissions process is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay organized, do your research, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
