Open executive Job in Academic & University Assistant Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer

The University of Nebraska seeks an innovative, collaborative leader to serve as its Assistant Vice President (AVP) and Chief Procurement
Officer (CPO). This is a significant leadership opportunity for an experienced professional to formulate strategy and direct a
Procure-to-Pay (P2P) organization. The position reports to the University’s Vice President for Business and Finance/CFO.

To
become more efficient and effective, the University is transforming from a decentralized procurement model to a Center-led P2P model for the
four campuses – Lincoln (UNL), Omaha (UNO), Kearney (UNK), Medical Center (UNMC) – and the system office, which is known
officially as Central Administration (UNCA). The AVP-CPO will have direct responsibility for University-wide procurement strategy and
category management; contract administration; procurement operations; supplier management; and a unified payments area composed of accounts
payable, travel and Pcard programs. Operationally, the P2P organization will be comprised of approximately 50 full time equivalent
staff.

Qualifications, Attributes and Competencies

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree
that provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities, and at least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant
procurement and/or finance related duties.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and demonstrated business acumen
and supply chain experience with higher education, government, research, or healthcare institutions. Relevant knowledge and understanding of
educational/governmental procurement regulations; professional certifications such as CPP, CPM, CPSM, CPPM, CPA; and managerial experience
overseeing operations at multiple locations and remotely is also desired.

The AVP-CPO will be a visionary and inspiring leader with a
track record of providing strategic direction and organizational effectiveness in an entity of significant scale and complexity. The AVP-CPO
will bring broad-based procurement and business experience and success at leading change, managing resources, and streamlining processes and
systems. This individual will be a person of the highest integrity with a collegial style that engenders trust and inspires collaboration,
and who is enthusiastic about the day-to-day management of efficient operations and the delivery of excellent customer service.

The
AVP-CPO will have strong interpersonal abilities, including skills in verbal and written communication, and mature organizational skills to
collaborate with multiple entities, solve problems, and navigate a complex higher education and research enterprise. They will demonstrate
managerial expertise and the capacity to mentor a leadership team and further develop a high-performing, professional, client-focused
service organization committed to advancing the University’s goals, objectives, and priorities.

In addition, the AVP-CPO
will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to manage relationships among strategic suppliers;
  • Bring experience with procurement
    strategy development to successfully promote collaboration and collegiality and to advance mission;
  • Show knowledge of procurement
    technology platforms to take full advantage of feature capabilities available to streamline P2P processes and provide business intelligence
    capabilities to analyze and manage spend;
  • Bring proven knowledge of and leadership to implementing innovative procurement programs
    involving sustainability and supplier diversity;
  • Demonstrate ability to negotiate and contract with the University’s best
    interest in mind;
