Job offer available in Scotland Research Associate in NanoMaterials Enhanced Membranes for Carbon Capture at The University of Edinburgh

A 12 month, fixed term appointment is available within the Institute for Materials and Process at the University of Edinburgh to work on Horizon2020-funded collaborative project in the field of membrane separations for carbon capture.

The objective of the project is to overcome the limits which makes the CO2 capture in pre and post-combustion processes currently not viable in many industrial applications. Through the development of innovative materials and process, the project intends to achieve a substantial reduction in energy penalty, at much lower costs, and a reduction of CO2 emissions.

This project is a collaboration with 11 European partners coordinated by the University of Bologna and Hanyang University (South Korea). Several materials will be prepared by the partners and tested in terms of transport properties and stability. The experimental activities will be accompanied by molecular and process simulation to evaluate the transport in the materials and their effect on the design of the complete process.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the technoeconomical analysis of carbon capture processes based on the facilitated transport and hybrid membranes developed in the project. The membranes will be evaluated in various process configurations using an in-house developed simulator coupled with Unisim Design. Optimised configuration based on the membranes performance will be explored.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or other relevant field and have extensive experience in process modelling of membrane systems. The post is expected to start in September 2018 and will be supervised by Dr Maria-Chiara Ferrari. Candidates invited for interview will be informed no later than two working weeks after the close of applications.

Closing Date: 05 September 2018 at 5pm GMT
