FACULTY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE, DEPARTMENT OF FOOD PRODUCTION

SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN ANIMAL NUTRITION, FORAGE MANAGEMENT & UTILIZATION

Qualifications and Experience 

The successful candidate must possess a PhD, which should be in Animal/Livestock Science or a closely related field, with a focus related to:

  • Animal Nutrition
  • Forage Management & Utilization specific to tropical environments. 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Considerable teaching experience at a recognised university
  • A good record of publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in teaching courses related to Animal Nutrition, Ruminant and Non-Ruminant Production Systems and Practical Skills in Animal Production
  • Competence in Animal Nutrition, Feed Formulation and Tropical Animal Production Systems, with a special focus on Small Farms, Tropical Forages & Feed Resources and Tropical Livestock Breeds. 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • BSc in Agriculture
  • Demonstrated experience in successful supervision of graduate and post-graduate students
  • Knowledge and experience with tropical and neo-tropical animals. 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Advanced level training in ruminant and non-ruminant production systems
  • Experience in revision of existing curriculum or development of new curriculum to keep abreast of development and innovation in the area of expertise
  • Good track record of developing thematic research programmes and history of attracting external research funding
  • Experience in applying research findings to satisfy industry needs.

Personal Attributes

  • Be well rounded in the Livestock Science discipline
  • Be committed to excellence in teaching and have a strong interest in mentoring students
  • Be self-motivated and capable of motivating others
  • Be willing to forge working relationships and meaningful engagement with external stakeholders
  • Be willing to teach on virtual platforms in real time
  • Be able to operate an animal nutrition laboratory
  • Be able to conduct in-vitro laboratory experiments and feeding trials
  • Be able to handle small and large farm animals
  • Have practical skills in animal management.
