LECTURER IN GEOGRAPHY

Qualifications and Experienc

The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognised university, which should be in Geography, Geomatics or a closely related field, with a focus in one or more of the following areas or a closely related area:

  • Urban Geography & Planning
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Natural Hazard & Disaster Management

Candidates should also possess:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in teaching and research in a relevant area at the university level
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in international journals
  • Proficiency in the areas of GIS, Urban Geography & Planning and Natural Hazard & Disaster Management.

Candidates with competence in environmental modelling using GIS and Remote Sensing and/or with the following experience would have an advantage:

  • Supervising research at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Developing Geography curriculum
  • Using remote sensing techniques

The following and/or competence in the use of mixed method approaches in Geography would be considered assets:

  • Qualifications in online teaching
  • Certificate in university teaching
  • Experience working with regional and local agencies
  • Experience leading outreach activities
  • History of producing technical reports

Special Responsibilities

  • Developing, coordinating, and delivering courses in Geography
  • Teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Contributing to undergraduate curriculum development and developing postgraduate programmes
  • Supervising undergraduate research projects and postgraduate research
  • Developing a research programme in Geography including attracting external funding and publishing in refereed journals
  • Serving on Committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Supporting the Department’s outreach profile in Geography and the Environment.
