The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 – £41,163 per annum, depending on skills and experience. , inclusive of London Allowance.

We are seeking a researcher in data science to contribute to cutting-edge exemplar projects within the Administrative Data Research Centre for England that focus on novel data linkages to address policy and research questions. The overall aim of the programme is to widen the use of administrative data for research.

The researcher will spend approximately 50% of their time on research and 50% providing data scientist support. The main research project for the post will involve research using national data on environmental pollution, health and education, to examine the effects on air pollution on cognition. The researcher will also contribute to a project involving linkage between health data and data on benefits and employment. This research will be carried out under the supervision of Professors Wilkinson (LSHTM), Dearden (UCL IoE), and Gilbert (UCLGOSICH). In the data scientist role, the post holder will develop detailed knowledge of a range of datasets used by researchers working with the ADRC-E and be able to liaise with data providers, ensure governance requirements are met, and create and curate data extracts.

The post provides an outstanding opportunity to undertake high impact quantitative work using administrative data. The post would suit a researcher who enjoys contributing to a team and would like working across a number of different projects.

The post is available immediately and is funded until 30 September 2018 in the first instance.

Candidates should hold a PhD in statistics or epidemiology or related area or equivalent research experience. Candidates near completion of a PhD will also be considered.

Experience of data management of large administrative datasets and creating data cleaning algorithms. Experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g. STATA, R, SAS) and of carrying out high quality research.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £29,809 – £31,432 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
