Research Assistant salary: £33,380 to £35,061 per annum*
Research Associate salary: £37,904 to £45,547 per annum
Applicants are invited to apply for two new positions at either Research Assistant (pre-doctoral) or Research Associate (post-doctoral) level for medical robot vision and navigation. The Hamlyn Centre is dedicated to developing safe, effective and accessible imaging, sensing and robotics technologies that can reshape the future of healthcare. Focusing on technological innovation but with a strong emphasis on clinical translation and direct patient benefit with a global impact, the centre is at the forefront of research in imaging, sensing and robotics for addressing global health challenges associated with demographic, environment, social and economic changes.
The vacancies are created for the development of a new surgical robot platform for endoluminal intervention incorporating novel device designs, intelligent cooperative control, force feedback and motion scaling, as well as real-time 3D navigation. The project builds on our strong partnership with industry aiming to develop the next generation surgical robot technologies that are safe, effective, and accessible to general NHS populations.
We are looking for outstanding applicants in any of the following areas of research:
- Medical robotics, particularly mechatronics and control for continuum robots
- Co-operative control, manipulation and learning from demonstration for robot assisted intervention;
- Surgical vision and navigation including 3D tracking, navigation and control
The position is for 2 years initially and experience in system integration and practical clinical/in vivo deployment would be an advantage.
For a Research Assistant level position, you must have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry/Biochemistry, or a related discipline. For a Research Associate position, you must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in related disciplines. You will need to have considerable experience in interdisciplinary research and managing large integrated development projects.
Applicants with strong experience and a proven track record in one or more of the above research areas are encouraged to apply. A high level of analytical and computing skills is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in relevant areas. Applicants must be fluent in English. The position is based at the South Kensington campus.
