The Electrochemical Science & Engineering Group is looking to hire two experimental researchers to join our diverse and expanding team at the centre of high cutting-edge research in electrochemical storage. Funded through the Faraday Institute and Innovate UK, we are working with our Industrial collaborators to develop the next generation of hybrid chemistry battery packs and Battery Management Systems with the goal of improving performance and lifetime.

­These two experimental positions will advance the understanding of the degradation modes of lithium ion batteries and supercapacitors for real world applications, and will support the modellers in developing parametrised and validated models for the design and control of cells and packs.   

Duties and Responsibilities 

As an experimentalist in our group, you will be required to:

  • Identify, develop and apply suitable techniques for the collection and analysis of data
  • Assist modellers in parametrising physical and reduced order battery models
  • Take initiatives in planning and implementation of research 

You will also be contributing to the success of future research bids and promoting the reputation of the group, and by extension the Department and College.

Skills, knowledge and experience 

You must:

  • Have a degree in a pertinent subject, or equivalent experience
  • Have practical experience of working in a research environment, especially in testing energy storage devices.
  • Have experience in electronics and the designing of bespoke test rigs
  • Be knowledgeable about lithium ion batteries 

Key information: 

This is a fixed term position for up to 30 months.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £33,380 – £35,061 per annum.
