The Electrochemical Science & Engineering Group is looking to hire a researcher proficient in the use of physics based models to develop continuum scale models for high-energy lithium-ion batteries. Our rapidly expanding research group is at the centre of high quality research into electrochemical storage. In this project, we focus on developing the next generation hybrid chemistry battery packs and battery management systems, with the goal of improving performance and lifetime.
The purpose of this post is to work closely with a counterpart experimentalist to develop the understanding of the phenomena limiting the batteries’ performance in hybrid packs. You will collaborate with other modellers and coders to inform the development of novel, physics-informed estimation and control algorithms for battery management systems. The level of industrial collaboration associated with this position makes it ideal for anyone looking to build relationships in this field.
Duties and Responsibilities
You will be:
- Developing suitable continuum multiphysics models of lithium-ion batteries
- Assisting experimentalists in gathering data for model parametrisation and validation
- Aiding the other modellers in the group in their development of reduced order models
You will also be expected to plan and conduct your own work, publishing papers and presenting your work at national and international conferences.
Skills, knowledge and experience
- You will need a degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering or Mathematics (or equivalent experience).
- You should have experience of working in a research environment, with knowledge of research and statistical methods
- You must have experience of Multiphysics modelling, and lithium-ion batteries
- You will be expected to use creative thinking and apply this to problem-solving, and the development of new concepts
This is a fixed term position for up to 30months.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £33,380 – £35,061 per annum.
