Fixed term appointment for 12 months

Applications are invited for a Laboratory Technician to join our small team supporting staff and students within the Department of Chemistry. You will be a member of the Chemistry research technical team and be responsible for providing technical support to a variety of research laboratories in the Chemistry Department and assisting staff and students with their activities. The role will primarily involve assisting the other technical staff in the performance of their duties. Work will involve some chemistry and a chemistry background is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.

The post will be initially based at the South Kensington Campus, but will include providing technical assistance as part of the Departments relocation at the White City Campus in 2018.

You will have at least 2 A-levels or equivalent and have previous experience in a relevant technical or scientific role ideally in a Higher Education environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required as is an ability to show initiative and judgement when carrying out duties. The ability to work well as a member of a team and and ability to undertake a range of technical support activities is also required.  You will be responsible for ensuring safe working of yourself, and other users. The post will also involve manual handling and training will be provided in respect of this.

The Appointee would normally start at the bottom of the salary scale.
