Job offer in Ireland Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) at The Agriculture and Food Development Authority

Eligibility: PhD in a relevant discipline with up to 3 years’ (max.) relevant experience. 

The combined total of this contract combined with any other PD1 contracts must not exceed 3 years in total.

Post Duration: The indicative duration of 24 months, but not exceeding the above project end date, subject to contract

Location: Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin 15. Co. Dublin, Ireland

Training Rate: Appointment will be at the minimum point of the Post Doctoral Level 1 (PD1) scale (€36,853).

The current PD1 scale is as follows: PD1: €36,853 (min.); €37,383; €39,138 (max.)

Increments will be awarded annually* subject to performance and completion of the prescribed training plan.

Note: Exceptional circumstances may apply for candidates with current or previous service in the public sector. *Remuneration and the annual cycle for the payment of increments may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government policy.

Basic Function of the post: The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority is seeking to fill a short term position at Teagasc Food Research Centre Ashtown for an extraction technologist.  The successful candidate will be involved in the extraction and fractionation of bioactive compounds from seaweeds.  The primary role of the candidate is to develop a range of extraction technologies and chemical characterisation of a range of bioactives.  The candidate will work in tandem with the research partners within the EU consortium comprising of Spain, Sweden, Germany and Norway in meeting the deliverables of the project.

Teagasc is a public agency for the Irish Department of Food, Agriculture and Marine that provides research, advisory and training for the agri-food sector (www.teagasc.ie).  Teagasc Food Research Centre Ashtown is one of the two locations that undertake Teagasc Food Programme Research (www.teagasc.ie/ashtown).  The mission of Teagasc Food Programme is to provide leadership in research, consultancy and training in the food sector thereby encouraging product innovation and enhanced food safety and quality. 

Person Specification

Essential

  • PhD in Chemical, Biochemical, Food Process Engineering or cognate disciplines.
  • Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years’ post-PhD

Desirable

  • Experience in extraction technologies
  • Experience in setting own research agenda
