Job offer in Ireland Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at University College Cork

UCC wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics. The Lecturer will hold a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics or a closely related discipline and have a track record of independent research of international standing. Reporting to the Head of School of Mathematical Sciences, the Lecturer will have relevant teaching experience and will be required to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Applied Mathematics. The Lecturer will demonstrate strong potential to secure funding through research grants, and will be expected to generate research funding to support PhD students.
The School of Mathematical Sciences, founded by George Boole in 1849 (https://www.ucc.ie/en/matsci/), encompasses the fundamental disciplines of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, as well as the newer disciplines of Scientific Computing, Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science. The Department of Applied Mathematics consists of 5 permanent Staff with strong focus on research in the areas of analysis of PDEs, nonlinear dynamics, complex networks, mathematical modeling and scientific computing (37% of the total published output was classified as internationally excellent in the 2015 Research Quality Review).
The Lecturer will be expected to contribute to the development of the new MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Self-Learning Systems (https://www.ucc.ie/en/ckr56/). The Lecturer will have the opportunity to develop funded collaborative mathematical research with the Tyndall National Institute (http://www.tyndall.ie) in the area of ICT, with industrial partners in the areas of complex networks, machine-learning and self-learning systems, with the Environmental Research Institute (https://www.ucc.ie/en/eri/) and the Marine Renewable Energy Ireland Institute (http://www.marei.ie).

Appointment may be made on the Lectureship Salary Scale: €33,149 – €58,547/€63,987 – €82,273. In all instances the successful appointment will be at the first point of the scale.
