Location: Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork
Grade/Salary: Technologist, with a starting salary of €31,729 per annum. The current salary scale is €31,729 to €62,700. Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale per Government Circular E100/8/82. Exceptional circumstances may apply for candidates with current or previous service in the public sector (including Teagasc).
Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy.
Post Type: Temporary Externally Funded Non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 24 months, subject to contract.
A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.
Basic Function: Under the guidance of the project leader, the appointee will be responsible for creating a range of concentrated natural flavours through fermentation to meet current and future legislative requirements and market demands. Using lactic acid bacteria and/or yeast cultures, acquired from culture collections or isolated during the project, the appointee will develop separate fermentation processes using natural substrates to produce the desired end-products. The project will utilize the capability and expertise in microbiology and flavour chemistry available at Teagasc to fulfill the project objectives.
Note: The ‘Essential’ qualifications, skills and knowledge outlined below are ‘must-have’ which will be used in the shortlisting process.
- Candidates must have a Level 8 degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in Microbiology or Biochemistry would be a distinct advantage.
