About the opportunity
The Quantum Science Group in the School of Physics at the University of Sydney undertakes experimental and theoretical research in quantum science with the aim of learning how to engineer and manipulate complex quantum systems. This incorporates work aimed at addressing challenges at both the hardware and software levels.

At this time, a variety of technology platforms have demonstrated quantum coherent phenomena. Our experimental research efforts focus on two proven systems: spins in semiconductors and trapped atomic ions. These efforts, while distinct, share complementary control techniques and are unified by platform-independent theoretical research in support of the group’s broad interests in quantum science.

About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance in recruiting talent aligned to these values in the pursuit of research excellence.

Applications are invited for the appointment to the position(s) at Research Associate level/ Research Fellow level in Quantum Information Theory at the Quantum Science Research Group, School of Physics. Our theory group leads core research projects in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS), as well as the Army Research Office (ARO), USA, and is a joint research collaboration between Professor Stephen Bartlett, Professor Andrew Doherty, and Associate Professor Steven Flammia.

We require up to two postdoctoral theorists to undertake research in quantum information theory and/or quantum many-body physics, on topics that align with the research directions currently pursued by the theory group.

The position(s) are fixed term for two years, subject to completion of a satisfactory probationary period for new appointees. Further offer of up to one year may be available subject to funding and performance.
