The Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne seeks to make an appointment in the field of urban politics as part of its new Connected Cities Laboratory.
The successful candidate will demonstrate both accomplishment and continued promise in the field of urban governance and politics, with a record of recognised scholarly and, ideally, also professional work. They will have a proven capability to make a significant contribution to urban development and in particular in its international dimension. They will join a new purpose-built team and a vibrant interdisciplinary community within the Faculty and the university in setting the direction of the Laboratory and its research/engagement agenda on international urban politics. The ability to engage key urban stakeholders in the multilateral, private and local government sectors through a range of innovative research approaches will be key to this role.
The successful candidate will work with the Lab director as well as their Lab colleagues to refine and deliver academic programs while enhancing the interdisciplinary culture of the Faculty, with a possibility to engage with its diverse disciplines such as Urban Planning, Construction and Property or Urban Design. This is a teaching, research and engagement position, with a significant focus on establishing the foundation and developing the Lab’s international urban politics activities. This will be particularly focused on the area of international urban planning and international urban development, as part of the Faculty’s and MSD’s expanding offer of globally-oriented urban education. The Lecturer will take part in developing international planning/design courses and/or studios and take the lead in adding further dimensions to the University’s world class offer for built environment practitioners, especially in relation to global dimensions of urban governance and politics.
In this position you will have an established research specialisation in urban governance and politics, and especially their international dimensions, and demonstrate a high level of research performance and/or potential relative to the level of appointment. You will be expected to contribute to the high standard of research and publication within the Lab and to cultivate research links with other groups and disciplines on campus, and with industry and the professions.
