Vaʻaomanū Pasifika (VASA) was established as a unit in 2005 to facilitate the study of Pacific cultures and languages at Victoria. The aim of VASA is to increase student understanding of Pacific issues and produce graduates able to contribute to and be leaders in the development of Pasifika communities in New Zealand, the region and internationally.

The Director will provide academic leadership and guide a strategic vision for the Pacific Studies and Samoan Studies Programmes that make up Vaʻaomanū Pasifika and contribute to research and teaching in the Unit.

The appointment of the Director will be on a three year fixed-term basis with a concurrent permanent appointment at Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer level in Vaʻaomanū Pasifika. The appointee will move from the Director role into a full-time academic role as Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer at the completion of their term as Director.
