Catawba College welcomes applications for its next
Provost.

Catawba College is a four-year, private institution with an enrollment of 1,300 students whose mission is to “provide
an education rich in personal attention that blends the skills and competencies of liberal studies with career preparation” by uniting the
campus constituencies as “active co-participants in scholarship and service,” with the goal of preparing graduates to “reach their highest
potential while becoming responsible citizens with a zeal to enrich human life.” In carrying out its mission, Catawba provides an education
focused on an institutional philosophy of a liberal education, which entails a broad range of knowledge, intellectual and practical skills,
and individual and social responsibility fostered and developed in all academic programs, including general education and majors, and from
the freshman to senior years. The College ensures a focus on student success, with an emphasis on the four core values of scholarship,
character, culture, and service.

Catawba College has regularly appeared in numerous national publications including being
ranked #4 in its category in U.S. News and World Report, in the top 100 in Forbes’ Grateful Grads Index, and many others noting its academic

The Provost reports directly to the President of the College. The Provost serves as the
chief academic officer of the College and may be authorized by the President to act for the President when the President is unavailable. The
Provost is directly responsible for (1) all academic functions of the College and (2) all matters pertaining to the faculty, the curriculum,
academic policies with related procedures and actions, and academic budgets. The Provost also coordinates all academic functions of the
institution with the areas of student life, athletics, facilities, and institutional finances. The Provost serves on the President’s
Cabinet. While not specifically required, the Provost will be encouraged and supported in teaching at least one course per academic year.

In overseeing the operations of Academic Affairs, the Provost will be a key official in emphasizing student success to ensure
fulfillment of the college’s mission and enhancing student engagement and retention. As such, the successful candidate should demonstrate
experience and understanding of high impact practices, student development theory, and best practices in student engagement and learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree; and,
  • Experience and academic
    qualifications for faculty status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and academic qualifications for appointment
    equivalent to associate or full professor;
  • Demonstration of a strong commitment to shared governance.
  • Significant
    experience with academic administration in a small residential liberal arts or comprehensive college;
  • Experience with and knowledge
    of areas where Catawba College is strategically seeking enrollment growth, including but not limited to Health Sciences, Business,
    Environment and Sustainability, and the Performing Arts;
  • Experience with accreditation issues and knowledge of the requirements of
    the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges;
  • Commitment to the value of a liberal arts education as
    well as the integration of the liberal arts with professional education; and,
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative working
    relationships in academic affairs, student affairs, athletics, development, and enrollment.
