Job Summary:
The University of
Southern Mississippi (USM) is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Director of the School of Education. The School of Education is home to
three units (Elementary Education ELE), Special Education (SPE), and Educational Administration and Research (ERA), and offers program at
the undergraduate, masters, specialist, and doctoral levels. The School Director position is a full-time, 12-month, open rank position with
an administrative appointment beginning July 1, 2018. The successful candidate for this position will join the faculty, staff, students and
the broader academic community in guiding the School to new levels of achievement, visibility, and impact. Broad responsibilities for the
School Director include planning, development, and administration of the School’s academic units while advocating on their behalf to both
internal and external education stakeholders. Specifically, the Executive Director will represent and advocate for all School faculty,
staff, students and programs across two campuses; manage School personnel, budget and allocation of resources; oversee accredited programs;
evaluate faculty and staff; and provide leadership in the University, state and region.

Duties and
Responsibilities:

Duties include the following:

  1. Provide leadership for School programs and ensure that curricula,
    instruction, assessment, research and outreach are innovative, of the highest quality, and aligned with college and University strategic
    plans
  2. Oversee School administration, including staffing courses, managing the budget, overseeing staff, and ensuring
    efficient/effective day-to-day operations of the School
  3. Provide leadership and effective representation and advocacy for the School
    at the College and University levels, including establishment and implementation of School, College and University policies, procedures and
    guidelines
  4. Foster effective, mutually beneficial relationships with local, state and national educational entities (i.e., K-12
    schools), as well as other constituencies relevant to programs represented in the
  5. Facilitate faculty development and collaborative
    engagement in meaningful evaluation of faculty
  6. Teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in discipline

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Earned doctorate in one of the disciplines represented in the School or a closely related
field

2. A record of success as an administrator in either the K-12 system or a university comparable to USM

3.
Demonstrated experience with state and national CAEP/NCATE accreditation

Preferred Qualifications:
1.
Establishment and expansion of effective collaborative partnerships with education stakeholders throughout the region

2.
Demonstrated record of scholarship including securing and successfully administering externally funded projects/programs

3. Prior
or current state licensure (MS or other) as a teacher or school administrator
