The Director of Administration and Strategic Initiatives is the
senior executive staff member of the Media School and a key position in the senior executive team of the Dean. The Director provides the
leadership and management necessary to establish and maintain the proper strategic vision and administrative infrastructure of the School.
This position is responsible for effectively growing the School and ensuring operating efficiency and financial strength. The Director will
often make decisions where no precedent exists.
As the lead member of the Dean’s staff, the Director of Administration and
Strategic Initiatives oversees and coordinates all of the non-academic administrative and support functions of the School. The Director has
broad responsibility and authority in the areas of strategic planning and management, budget and financial planning, policy and program
development, and communication.
This position requires the ability to work in both business and academic contexts, as the School
is unique in a variety of ways. Many new initiatives will require insights into key markets, growth opportunities, and research to generate
academic success in a dynamic new media economy. The Director manages highly visible and complex projects for both the School’s internal and
external affairs, and facilitates coordination with the College and University communities. It requires great flexibility; a quick read on
any given situation; and an in-depth understanding of the Media School, both at IU and in the national context of other Media and
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and seven years of
progressive business or pertinent administrative leadership experience.

experience may be considered.
Expertise in support of upper level management position(s), including managerial, project
management, supervision, and strategic planning. Strong verbal and written communication skills including interpersonal skills. Quantitative
skills sufficient to conduct budget projections, market analyses, business analytics. Familiarity with budgeting procedures and financial
management. Experience with negotiating business arrangements and contracts. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to successfully
manage multiple responsibilities and tasks with frequent interruptions. Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level
of accuracy. Ability to work both independently and as a team member, with a wide range of partners. Discretion and the ability to maintain
a high level of confidentiality. Ability to make presentations in front of groups and to represent the Media School and the University;
present a positive image to a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent computer skills, including competence in Word, Excel, Outlook, Access,
statistical programs. Familiarity with the industries and institutions served by the Media School (film, TV, journalism, advertising, public
Master’s degree; MBA or advanced degree in administration,
communication, or media-related field; Ph. D. in relevant areas such as communication or business-related fields; Knowledge of IU systems
and policies, procedures and standards.
