a century ago as a women’s college, became a fully coeducational university in 2013. Women and men attend classes on the GCU main campus in
Lakewood, N.J., on the picturesque former George Jay Gould estate, which is also a National Historic Landmark. Courses are also taught
online and at several other locations in New Jersey.

Job Description:

Georgian Court University, located in
Lakewood, New Jersey is currently accepting applications for the next Dean of its School of Education. The university seeks a dedicated
academic and seasoned administrative leader to carry forward the esteemed history of the School of Education. The School of Education is one
of three Schools at Georgian Court University. The School is home to 12 full-time faculty members and serves approximately 300
undergraduates and 500 graduate students enrolled in various degree and/or certificate programs including teacher education, administration
and leadership, and educational services.

The Dean will serve as the primary representative of the School of Education to the
University and wider community. The Dean will coordinate academic advancement activities within the School, lead CAEP accreditation,
participate in University-wide planning and management activities, enhance and promote the School’s instructional programs, support faculty
scholarly research, seek and facilitate additional school partnerships, and develop new initiatives to meet emerging needs.

The successful candidate will be called upon to:

  • Lead new and innovative efforts to market and promote all
    School of Education programs;
  • Develop and nurture partnerships with school districts to support clinical experience and clinical
    practice opportunities;
  • Strengthen and promote GCU’s flagship undergraduate and post-baccalaureate initial certification programs
    in dual PreK-12 teacher education and special education;
  • Foster growth in the Graduate Programs (certificates/master’s degree):
    Autism Spectrum Disorders, Early Childhood, Bilingual/Bicultural education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Instructional Technology,
    and Teaching Students with Disabilities (TSD);
  • Advance the Leadership and Educational Services Programs (certificates/master’s
    degree): Administration and Leadership, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC), Reading/Literacy Specialization, School Business
    Administrator, School Counselor, and School Supervisor;
  • Cultivate non-degree certification programs;
  • Augment K-12 teacher
    professional development partnerships and promote them as stepping-stones to GCU certificates and master’s degrees;
  • Advocate for
    socially just educational policies;
  • Model and serve as a leader in the Mercy tradition. 

Requirements:

The candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • An earned
    doctorate from an accredited institution in an appropriate field related to the School of Education;
  • A distinguished record of
    scholarly research, evidence of excellence at university-level teaching, and a strong commitment to service tied to the university’s mission
    within the Catholic, Mercy tradition to be eligible for appointment at the rank of Professor;
  • The capacity to develop and lead a
    unified strategic vision for the School;
  • A track record of successfully leading NCATE/TEAC/CAEP accreditation and instituting a
    quality-oriented improvement cycle based on assessment and data analysis;
  • A service-oriented leadership style with evidence of
    success in fostering a collegial, collaborative environment with faculty, students, staff, and administrators across the university and with
    the community at large;
  • Commitment to inclusion and diversity to ensure a productive work environment;
  • Experience in and
    commitment to leading, promoting, and supporting the scholarly and professional activities of School faculty;
  • Experience in and
    commitment to periodic reviews of School curriculum, instructional resources, and facilities to ensure quality of programs;
  • Experience in and commitment to involvement in K-12 education policy;
  • Experience in and commitment to managing multiple sites
    and varied student learning formats (i.e. hybrid, online, traditional);
  • Experience in and commitment to participating in
    education-oriented conversations at a national level;
  • Experience in and commitment to generating funding for instruction, research,
    service, and/or School facilities;
  • Public school experience in a teacher and administrative capacity a plus.
