Open executive Job in Academic & University Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences


Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences.

Located in Joplin, Missouri, MSSU is a regional liberal arts university that offers both undergraduate and graduate programs to more than
5,500 students. MSSU is dedicated to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarly activity.

The School of Arts & Sciences
has accredited Bachelor degrees and certificate programs in the following departments: Art, Biology/Environmental Health, Chemical &
Physical Sciences, Communication, Criminal Justice, English & Philosophy, International English, International Studies, Mathematics,
Modern Languages, Music, Social Science, Social Work, and Theatre. In addition, some departments also offer Master’s level programs and/or
course work.

As the chief academic officer of the School, the Dean is responsible for providing the vision and leadership
required to fulfill the mission of the School and to achieve its strategic goals. The Dean should be an inspiring leader with an
entrepreneurial spirit that fosters close relationships with the faculty, alumni, and community leaders. The Dean reports to the Vice
President for Academic Affairs and has responsibility for all administration and management of the School, its faculty, and its resources.
Department chairs assist the Dean in the administration of the school.

The ideal candidate should have a proven record of
academic and administrative accomplishment, excellence in leadership, experience as department chair responsible for faculty evaluations,
and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituencies within the School of Arts & Sciences, across the University,
and in the community.

Required qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree.
  • Academic credentials and a record of scholarly achievement.
  • Administrative leadership experience.
  • Commitment to
    excellence in education.

Salary will be commensurate with background and experience. Application materials will be reviewed upon
