PRINCIPAL ROLE AND PURPOSE: The
role of the Dean of the San Francisco Law School that of academic leader and business management. The Dean of the San Francisco Law School
will oversee San Diego Law School, which is a branch campus of SFLS. The role of the Dean is to provide inspirational, innovative and
enterprising academic and business management leadership and to lead the strategic management of the School to ensure that the School
achieves its plans and objectives as well as the highest academic standards and supports the achievement of the University’s mission, vision
and overall objectives. The principal measures that will be assessed in determining the success of the Dean’s efforts will be student
outcomes, recruitment and retention of qualified students and instructors, the reputation of the School and its economic strength. In
particular, the Dean shall pursue the achievement of the following benchmarks of superior accomplishment:
- Gain and maintain
national recognition and standing as an innovative leader in its disciplines and areas of thematic orientation.
- Establish and
maintain key accreditations and approvals as required to meet the goal in 1), above.
- Identify and develop a distinctive theme and
brand identity for the School that allows for the development of a distinctive and scalable market position within a robust and accessible
- Build and operate in pursuit of a financial model that materially contributes to the sustained growth and
profitability of the university.
- In coordination with the enrollment management and marketing teams develop and maintain an
effective marketing and student enrollment program that supports the achievement of the School’s enrollment goals and that enhances the
image of the School and attracts capable students.
- Lead faculty in building and applying curricular structures that allow for
innovation of the learning model to support a variety of delivery modalities and extension into new market segments.
- Build and
maintain faculty resources that enhance the thematic orientation and brand position of the School and that ensure the achievement of the
qualitative and quantitative goals of the School.
- Develop and maintain key relationships with leaders in the industries and
professions that are the primary source of employment for graduates.
- Develop an educational model and culture of support that
produce superior student outcomes and educational experiences, ultimately resulting in competent practice ready professionals.
- Generate and maintain exceptional student and employee satisfaction ratings.
- Operate the School in a manner that is
synergistically related to and supportive of the strategic operating goals and objectives of the University and its mission.
- Continue to develop personally and professionally as a thought leader and key influencer in the thematic and distinctive positioning
areas of focus of the School. Operate within the principles of best practice application and continuous improvement while maintaining a
culture· of innovation and creativity.
- Contribute positively to the University’s implementation of diversity, multicultural,
intercultural and equality initiatives and practices.
- In coordination with the University enrollment management, public relations
and marketing teams the Dean shall prepare and maintain an active program of internal and external public relations, School promotion, and
brand building and management.
- Development of online curricula and delivery modalities for the University law school to effectuate
the business plan.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE &
ACHIEVEMENTS: The Dean must have knowledge, experience and achievements 1hat prepare her/him to be an inspirational leader and effective
manager who by established reputation and standing enhances the brand and perception of the School and the University.

- Prior proven leadership in an organization of

- Consistent with the benchmarks of exceptional performance identified above, demonstrated ability to create a compelling
vision, formulate a plan of action in pursuit of that vision, mobilize others in support of the vision and the plan, and timely achieve the
plan goals and objectives, all in alignment with professional trends and academic standards.
- A clear understanding of and respect
for the traditions, values and distinctive attributes of institutions of higher education as reflected by the American postsecondary
tradition and practices.
- Financial management experience.

ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATION AND COMMUNICATIONS: The Dean
shall serve as a member of the President’s Steering Committee and Cabinet, participating in the formulation of academic and business
strategy and policy and shall provide sound, strategic advice to the Provost, the President’s Steering Committee on national policies and
initiatives and all matters relating to the maintenance and enhancement of quality and standards in respect of the School’s programs. The
Dean shall ensure that the Provost and the President’s Steering Committee are kept up to date about developments at international, national
and regional level relating to the School’s program areas.
The Dean shall model and maintain a mutually supportive and collegial
relationship with other academic administrators, staff, faculty and the Senior Management Team.
LIAISON AND NETWORKING: The Dean
shall facilitate the dissemination and understanding of accreditation, regulatory and other disciplinary policies and initiatives in respect
of the School’s programs, and shall seek the opportunity to represent the School and the University, as appropriate, on and within the
policy and decision-making units of international, national, and local bodies, forums and networks. The Dean shall maintain effective links
with international, national, regional and local bodies involved in the management of research, the student experience, and thought
leadership with respect to the School’s programs and providing strategic advice to such bodies on such matters in the interest of the
School, the University. The Dean shall seek to participate in, lead and develop as appropriate, internal and external networks and
collaborative partnerships with other educational institutions or organizations to foster collaboration, share ideas and promote and
implement best practice and to develop links with external contacts such as other educational bodies, employers, professional bodies and
other providers of external funding and opportunities for student internships, employment and other relevant experiences.
