Position summary

Saint Martin’s University, a Catholic Benedictine University in Lacey, WA, seeks a visionary individual with a strong record of academic
leadership and/or business management and innovation to serve as Dean of the School of Business. The School of Business offers undergraduate
programs in business administration, accounting, economics, and graduate programs in management and accounting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The College welcomes candidates who will collaborate with faculty, students, and university leaders to foster academic excellence and strong
teaching, scholarship, and service. We are particularly interested in individuals with a strong record of building relationships with and in
the business community and with the capacity to create successful partnerships that will provide opportunities for students both in new
programs and in their careers. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work with Institutional Advancement to raise funding
for both the school and the university. The Dean will play a pivotal role in planning, operations, assessment, and growth of baccalaureate
and graduate programs; revising existing curricula and developing new programs; and improving enrollment, retention and completion.

The new dean will respect, support, and promote the Catholic intellectual tradition’s dialogue of faith and reason and understand and
promote excellence in student recruitment, teaching, learning, scholarship, and service to the community. They should also be committed to
working with diverse student and community populations. Saint Martin’s is dedicated to providing students with culturally diverse and

The new Dean will work with faculty to articulate and advance the Mission of the University and to implement the University’s Strategic
Plan. A strong commitment to tenure as well as faculty recruitment and development, and the capacity to build collaborative relationships
with faculty are essential. The Dean will also enhance collaborative relationships between the school and the University’s College of Arts
and Sciences, the College of Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Hal and Inge Marcus School of Engineering. They will also develop
programs to strengthen Saint Martin’s presence at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and in our online offerings.

Required Qualifications and Attributes

  • A doctorate in one of the disciplines within the School of Business from an
    accredited university is preferred.
  • Alternatively, significant regional or national experience in their field or holding the office
    of CFO, CEO, or COO along with a post-baccalaureate degree can also be considered qualification for this position
  • At least three
    years of successful business or college administrative/leadership experience
  • A record of successful teaching along with scholarship
    and service at the level required for appointment to the rank of associate or full professor


  • Achieved significant
    impact in his/her career, with academic credentials and/or professional experiences which warrant entry at the associate or full professor
    level within the School

Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. Candidates must have valid documentation permitting them to work in the US from the
date on which the appointment at Saint Martin’s takes effect. The position is subject to final budgetary approval. Candidates must provide
official transcripts of graduate degree(s) and must pass a background check.
