The Michigan State University Department of Advertising and Public Relations, a leader in education, research and outreach, invites
nominations and applications for a dynamic, visionary leader to be the Chairperson. For more than 60 years, the department
has set the global pace in research excellence and achievement while also maintaining an award-winning undergraduate program. These remain

Our next chairperson will be a globally recognized scholar who has the foresight and
leadership to balance the department’s research initiatives and creative activity with our teaching mission. This person will be a
researcher, teacher and mentor who can lead our faculty and students, both undergraduate and graduate, to be competitive and successful in a
rapidly changing marketplace.

The department’s 16 tenure system faculty and 29 professors of practice maintain a
diverse portfolio of research interests, creative enterprise, and teaching excellence. Our top-ranked interdisciplinary doctoral program and
applied master’s program attract students from across the globe. With over 1,500 undergraduate majors, we are one of the largest academic
advertising programs in the world and our alumni hold top-level positions in advertising agencies, corporate settings, NGOs and governments

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in advertising, public relations, strategic communication or a related
discipline, a track record of distinguished scholarship including grant activity, administrative and organizational skills, and intellectual
curiosity. Preferred candidates will be effective communicators who have a demonstrated ability to facilitate interdepartmental, college and
university collaborations. The successful candidate will be a catalyst and dynamic leader who articulates a vision for the department and
the drive to achieve it. Having experience in forging collaborative relationships with industry partners is a plus.
