Department Information: The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine – In Vitro Diagnostics Development and
Clinical Trials Group at the IU School of Medicine. Our research and development team has been a national leader in In Vitro Diagnostic
Device (IVD) evaluation and Clinical Trials for 30 years. We have worked with dozens of companies across multiple disciplines to develop and
test new IVD devices at all stages of development: specimen acquisition, feasibility studies, prototype development, Pre- or Beta studies
and full clinical trials.
Will utilize expert knowledge of process and procedure for performing tests on patient specimens to provide information for the diagnosis,
treatment and prevention of disease. Demonstrate strong knowledge of scientific principles involved in the diagnostic procedures and shows
an ability to make independent judgments concerning the acceptability of results and quality control during the performance of the tests.
Develop new procedures and maintains the quality control and quality assurance programs. Perform method validation, development of new
assays and participation of outside initiatives at a regional and national level. Responsible for training and educating new employees and
students on standard operating procedures and laboratory protocol.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform testing of chemical procedures / instruments according to the
standard operating procedures and insure quality results in a timely manner. Perform testing with specialized equipment.

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science (medical technology), plus eligible for certification from a recognized
agency; or Bachelor’s degree in related science (chemistry, biology, microbiology); or Associate’s degree of an approved Medical Laboratory
Technician program plus certification from a recognized agency.
Ability to write effective standard operating procedures and testing techniques, ability to develop new tests as new equipment and
procedures are introduced in the laboratory, problem resolution and troubleshooting skills, advanced knowledge of automated and
non-automated testing equipment, ability to effectively train and mentor new staff act as a role model for existing staff helping to expand
their skills on the various benches in the laboratory.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
