Free open Job in Wales Social Data Science Lab Research Associate at Cardiff University

Applications are invited for a Research Associate post in the School of Computer Science & Informatics at Cardiff University. This is a full-time post for 12 months, starting on 1st April 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be dedicated to finding creative solutions and have a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm to undertake world-class research on the Centre for Cyberhate Research and Policy project, to develop tools and a dashboard to classify and visualise hate speech published via social media. This will involve collecting data from online social networks, performing human annotation tasks, novel feature detection, applying machine learning algorithms, and producing an interactive Web application to track and visualise Cyber hate following ‘trigger’ events, such as the recent referendum to leave the EU. You will work within the Social Data Science Lab and work closely with Dr Pete Burnap and Prof. Matt Williams, and collaborate with project partners the National Police Chiefs’ Council. You will possess or expect to receive a PhD in Computer Science or a related area.

This is a full time and fixed term post for 12 months.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6 scale.
