Main Purpose of the Post

The College of Engineering at Swansea University has undergone a very significant period of transformative growth and development over the past five years which has included moving to a brand-new purpose-built campus in 2015. The newly built Bay Campus is part of a £450 million development project at Swansea University and houses the academic areas of College of Engineering and School of Management as well as offering a wide range of brand-new teaching spaces, student accommodation and facilities.

The post is based in the new engineering laboratories housed within the Engineering Central, Engineering East, the Energy Safety Research Institute (ESRI) and Engineering North buildings, and will provide a service across all the engineering disciplines, including Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, Environmental, Materials, Mechanical and Medical Engineering as well as the area of Sport and Exercise Science.

The post holder will be a core member of the College of Engineering technical support team (currently numbering thirty two) that provides laboratory, teaching and maintenance support in the construction and use of apparatus and equipment for undergraduate teaching and research projects.

Candidates should have prior experience of working in a busy laboratory environment. They should hold a minimum of 5 GCSE’s to include Mathematics and English. A science degree, advanced City and Guilds or higher national certificate in a laboratory, science or mechanical discipline would be an advantage.
