Job offer available in Scotland Teaching Software Engineer at The University of Edinburgh
This is an exciting opportunity which will enable significant developments in the delivery of teaching and learning within the ambitious, diverse and growing School of Mathematics, as well as ensuring we maintain our internationally-leading position in online assessment. Working alongside existing staff, particularly our Technology Enhanced Mathematics Education team, the postholder will maintain, develop, deploy and monitor specialist software to support teaching within the School of Mathematics. In carrying out these activities the postholder will be informed by best practice in software engineering, all underpinned by technology-adoption and mathematical sciences education research more broadly.
The postholder must be able to programme to a high standard in PHP and another mainstream language, for instance Python or R. A working knowledge of best practice in software engineering, including version control and unit testing, is essential. Working knowledge of typesetting online, e.g. in HTML, CSS, and basic LaTeX, are also essential. We are also looking for communication in clear English. For example, the ability to write clear and accurate documentation and user guides, sometimes containing mathematical examples.
This post is fixed term for three years and the starting salary will be in the range of £33,199 to £39,609.
