Job offer available in Scotland Teaching Fellow at Heriot-Watt University

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual to join our teaching activities in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS). The main goal is to develop learning materials and deliver them in our GA programme in Data Science, which will start in September 2019.

This post will require producing high quality, innovative teaching materials and enhancing existing teaching materials in other Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science courses delivered at the Edinburgh campus. It will also require coordinating visits to the companies that employ our apprentices, in Central Scotland. Due to the unique nature of this post, previous experience of teaching and some industrial experience would be highly advantageous.

The GA BEng degree programme in Data Science delivers courses from several disciplines, including Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, and aims at equipping students with unique skills that are highly valuable in the current economy. Each of the four years of the programme lasts for 12 calendar months, whereby the apprentices attend the Edinburgh campus one day per week, and the remaining four days are spent at their company.

In addition to the standard academic delivery of materials, the post will involve direct contact with apprentices, providing placement visits to assess practice, assessment of workplace course units, and the application of quality procedures. You will provide candidates with excellent assessment support and work with others to develop new approaches to GA programme delivery, support and assessment, and making use of appropriate learning technologies.

The post will be full-time and will run for a fixed term of 24 months in the first instance, but is likely to lead to a longer appointment.

You must have a good first degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or another numerate subject involving data gathering, manipulation, storage and analysis. A higher degree (MSc/PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or another subject requiring numerical skills is desirable.
