Job offer available in Scotland Senior Scientific Officer at Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe’s leading cancer research centres. It supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics and in vivo models of cancer.

PRECISION-Panc is an ambitious programme of multi-disciplinary research that aims to learn more about the molecular and genetic changes that drive pancreatic cancer, and to feed this understanding back into future clinical trials to match patients to particular treatments based on molecular profile. As part of this programme Dr Jen Morton runs a preclinical team working on preclinical models of pancreatic cancer and novel targeted therapies.

She currently has a position for an experienced graduate or PhD to work in this team. The primary focus of this position is to study the mechanisms by which specific genetic lesions function in the pathogenesis and therapeutic sensitivity of pancreatic cancer. The work will involve the use of cell culture, murine models (GEMMs), and clinical specimens. There will also be the opportunity to collaborate with both academic and industrial partners on some projects.

You should possess a degree at 2(i) or above in genetics, cancer biology or molecular biology. PhD candidates will also be considered for this role. Whilst training will be provided, you will be expected to be proactive and ambitious in your work. Previous experience in genetically engineered in vivo cancer models is not essential but would be a significant advantage. You should also possess the capability to communicate with key collaborators at all levels and work effectively with a high performing team of fellow researchers.
