Job offer available in Scotland Research Software Engineer – Fixed Term 12 months at Heriot-Watt University
We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Research Software Engineer who is willing to work as part of a distributed open community. The successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to apply their expert software engineering skills to two interrelated complex research challenges.
The successful candidate should have a strong background in software development and will be expected to work on the development of web and Java applications. An interest in information retrieval, the semantic web, and user experience will be advantageous. They should also possess multifaceted problem-solving and good communication skills.
The post holder will join the Semantic Web Lab at Heriot-Watt University but will be an active member of the FAIRplus project, BridgeDb, and Bioschemas Community. The post may involve some travel to project meetings within Europe and to support members of the Bioschemas Community in developing markup of their resources. It may also include national and international travel to key research conferences.
Some experience of working with a software engineering company or on a funded research project would be beneficial. The project involves a high amount of communication with the wider project teams. A clear ability to confidently communicate information at a range of technical levels is critical, while an ability to assimilate large amounts of data and present this in visual and written report form, or to present to a variety of audiences is important.
