Job offer available in Scotland Postdoctoral Research Associate at The University of Edinburgh

Institute for Stem Cell Research

A highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate is invited to join the laboratory of Dr Abdenour Soufi at the University of Edinburgh based at the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine.

Due to its long, asymptomatic latency period and a lack of non-invasive early markers, most patients are diagnosed with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) once metastatic, which is too late for any life-saving treatment. Reprogramming cancer cells to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which can then be programmed (differentiated) back to their original cellular state, allows studying the dynamic events in the course of cancer progression (Kim J, et al. Cell Rep. 2013). To discover early detection markers, we plan to use programming and reprogramming of PDAC to iPSCs as a model to study the early epigenetic changes that drive the progression of this devastating disease. We plan to use a wide variety of next-generation sequencing (NGS) based tools such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and ATAC-seq (Soufi et al; Cell 2015, Soufi et al; Cell 2012). This is a collaborative project between the Soufi lab at the University of Edinburgh and Jungsun Kim laboratory at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute (Oregon, USA) funded by a CRUK-OHSU Project Award.

The successful candidate should have (or will shortly be awarded) a PhD in life sciences in an appropriate discipline with clear evidence of independent research capabilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team are crucial. Knowledge and past experience in cellular reprogramming, stem cells, epigenetics and next-generation-sequencing based techniques are required. Bioinformatics skills are highly desirable.

The post is full-time for a fixed term of 2 years.
