The James Hutton Institute is a well-respected and globally recognised research organisation delivering fundamental and applied science to drive the sustainable use of land and natural resources.
We are seeking a well-established transdisciplinary researcher to provide leadership in the field of Natural Capital Accounting. The three year fellowship has been funded by the Macaulay Development Trust to contribute to existing research on natural capital accounting, allowing us to overcome existing scientific challenges (see job description for more details). The successful candidate would help to develop and link the many strands of research on natural capital within the Institute, and to promote it at national and international levels. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with many partners, including the Scottish Forum for Natural Capital, Natural Capital Initiative and the Ecosystem Service Partnership. The successful candidate also has the option of supervising a PhD studentship on the topic, due to start in October 2017.
Ideally applicants will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. ecological economics, natural resource economics) or have a Master’s degree with several years’ experience working in the field of natural capital accounting or environmental valuation. We will be seeking candidates with a strong vision for future directions, with an international reputation in the field, and who combine strong research skills with the ability to working collaboratively with non-academic partners.
This post can be based in either Aberdeen or Dundee; there may be a requirement to travel between sites.
This post is appointable at a Hutton band E if essential criteria is satisfied, we may appoint at the higher band F if key components of the desirable skills and experience are satisfied.
