The existing MBChB programme is currently ranked first in Scotland and is delivered to almost 1000 students. This thriving programme is delivered in a dispersed campus model, in which we maintain a supportive and creative environment for the development and maintenance of the teaching and learning culture and the provision of an excellent student experience.

The post holder will be supported in their role by an experienced and vibrant academic and professional services support team, including leads for the Sri Lanka Medical Pathway in Aberdeen and Sri Lanka.

The post holder will play a major role in providing strategic leadership and academic oversight for the ongoing delivery and continual improvement of the MBChB programme, meeting regulatory requirements and enhancing the reputation of the programme and the University of Aberdeen. In addition, the post holder will participate in the related educational governance and academic administration of the Institute for Education in Medical and Dental Sciences and the wider university.

It is expected that candidates will have wide experience in a GMC approved medical undergraduate programme, including the recent performance of a substantial lead role. They will have understanding and experience of quality management in medical education and ideally candidates will have experience of undertaking pedagogic research.

The person appointed will be a member of the Institute of Education in Medical and Dental Sciences (IEMDS) and will be line managed by the Director, Professor Rona Patey.

This appointment is open to clinical and non-clinical applicants. It is not anticipated that there will be clinical activities within the post FTE, but support will be given for a candidate seeking a complementary clinical post.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Clinical salary scale for staff holding honorary consultant contracts (£80,653 – £107,170 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
