Founded in 1505, the College currently has a membership of around 24,000 in approximately 100 countries throughout the world.
About the JCIE and JSCFE
The JCIE and JSCFE are responsible, in line with the statutory requirements of the General Medical Council, to the four surgical Royal Colleges of Great Britain and Ireland, for the supervision of standards, policies, regulations, and professional conduct of the Specialty Fellowship Examinations. JCIE/JSCFE are the parent body for its ten surgical Specialty Boards. The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on behalf of the four surgical Colleges hosts JCIE/JSCFE.
About the Role
The role of Head of Operations is to provide leadership and management for the department and is responsible for the management and effective delivery of all surgical fellowship examinations, working with all key stakeholders. The key tasks involved with this role include; the performance management and evaluation of staff and processes in the JCIE/JSCFE, the management of financial resources for the section, advising on the strategic planning and delivery of all examinations and providing professional advice, guidance and reporting. Other tasks will include; maintaining business continuity plans and risk assessments, managing projects targeted to improve service delivery, inclusive of change management and introduction of new IT processes and contributing to the development of the IT systems.
Educated to Degree level or with equivalent relevant experience you will have an excellent track record as a senior manager with knowledge of performance management and evaluation systems. Familiarity with the creation and implementation of departmental policies and procedures is essential, as is experience of budgetary control and finance management. You will be computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office and have previous experience of working with databases.
Experience of managing teams through change is desirable as is the experience of the running of examinations in a professional body. Knowledge of UK Postgraduate Medical Education and working knowledge of Data Protection Act requirements and a working knowledge of equality and diversity legislation requirements are desirable.

Well motivated to meet objectives and achieve results you will be professional and conscientious in your approach to work with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure. You will be receptive to change and be committed to maintaining high customer care standards.
