Full-time: 35 Hours per week

University of the West of Scotland is a leading-edge modern University. It is driving an ambitious strategy for high-quality teaching and research, with a global engagement agenda to reflect the needs of the 21st century workplace. It places its students at the centre of all it does and can show the value-added it provides: retention is up 9% in recent years and professional employability is sitting at just under 90%, ahead of the target set in University’s corporate strategy for 2020. UWS is committed to globally relevant research and currently has teams undertaking pioneering work in areas including thin-film, 5G networking, gravitational waves and Alzheimer’s.

The School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences was established in 2018 to develop new opportunities for collaboration between strong subject areas. The School employs around 140 academic staff, and delivers programmes to over 2000 students. It has an annual income of around £20m. The school accounts for two-thirds of University research income, and has 150 PGR students across Creative Computing, Applied Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences. It has a growing enterprise and commercialisation portfolio, teaching partnerships in China, and transnational programmes in India and Mauritius.

A Dean is sought to lead the continued development of the School across all of its areas of educational innovation, high-quality research, enterprise and international engagement. The ability to build a strong team and oversee finances is key. Candidates should have a PhD, Doctorate or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, significant academic and personal credibility in a relevant discipline and the ability to act as a confident representative for the School to a wide range of regional, national and international stakeholders. A proven track record of successfully leading and implementing change in an academic environment is key to this role.
