There are 2 elements to this post:

  • The NIHR HTA REFleCt Trial and higher research degree
  • Speciality Training in Special Care Dentistry

In addition to Specialty Training in Special Care Dentistry and clinical and teaching duties, the main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to participate in and support the NIHR HTA REFleCt Trial: A Randomised controlled trial to Evaluate the effectiveness and cost benefit of prescribing high dose fluoride toothpaste in preventing and treatment dental Caries in high-risk older adults (REFleCt), working closely with the Trial Managers and team. This randomised controlled trial has been commissioned by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) programme.

The Trial Sponsor is the Central Manchester University Hospitals – NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and Professor Martin Tickley, Director of the Institutre of Dental Public Health, University of Manchester is the Chief Investigator. Professor Jan Clarkson, Dental Health Services Research Unit (DHSRU), University of Dundee is the Clinical Principal Investigator in Scotland. Together Professors Tickle and Clarkson are leading a UK-wide research team from NHS Education for Scotland (NES), NHS Northern Ireland and the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee and Manchester.
