Job offer available in Scotland Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University

Graduate Apprenticeships (GAs) are work-based learning programmes that lead to degree level qualifications. In the case of GAs at SCQF level 10 or 11 they lead to a higher education degree or postgraduate award. Heriot-Watt University has been awarded significant funding to deliver programmes for GAs including Engineering: Design and Manufacture, and Engineering: Instrumentation, Measurement and Control, both at SCQF level 10. The programmes are a combination of traditional study and supported work-based learning in partnership with employers.

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual to join our teaching activities in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) to develop learning materials and deliver them on our GA programmes in Engineering: Design and Manufacture, which commenced in September 2017, and Engineering: Instrumentation, Measurement and Control, which will start in September 2019.

The main requirements of the post will be to produce high quality, innovative teaching materials together with the enhancement of existing teaching materials to enable our BEng GA programmes named above to be delivered at our Edinburgh campus. This post will also involve taking the role of workplace assessor and this will necessitate liaison and visits to our apprentices at the various participating employers located in Central Scotland. Due to the unique nature of this post, previous experience of teaching and work-based assessment coupled with industrial experience would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver material for both programmes but with a focus on the electronics stream of Engineering: Design and Manufacture.

The post is available for 24 months.

A good first degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline) is essential and a higher degree (MSc/PhD) in Electrical Engineering or cognate discipline is desirable. You will have experience of teaching in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
