Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess an LLB and an LLM – preferably from a Common Law jurisdiction

Candidates must also have:

  • Demonstrable output or interest relating to research in areas of law relevant to the Caribbean
  • Evidence of outstanding academic/intellectual ability
  • Evidence of research and/or publication on a consistent basis or good potential for publication in younger academics
  • Experience with tertiary level instruction or project work
  • Versatile teaching capacities, especially in core LLB areas 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • PhD in Law from an accredited, globally ranked, leading university
  • Experience teaching at University level
  • A track record of scholarship in Law
  • Experience in Clinic work, mooting or international presentations 

Professional qualifications in Law; project proposal writing and management competencies; and work/consultancy experience in the chosen field would be assets.

Special Responsibilities 

  • Contributing to teaching in one or more of the core subjects of the LLB degree, in particular, Real Property, Tort, Legal Systems, Criminal Law and Equitable Remedies
  • Delivering and developing optional final year course programs, in particular, subject areas in Corporate and Commercial Law; Mooting, Trust, Trade and Business Law; and Conflicts of Laws.
  • Participating in the development of the Faculty’s Graduate programme, including the supervision of PhD Law students

  • Be able to supervise postgraduate students
  • Have the capacity to work on Faculty Outreach and research projects
  • Be able to develop curricula and provide academic leadership in the discipline

  • Be able to organize seminars and workshops in the discipline
