The Portfolio of Legal Affairs, Truman Bodden Law School, is currently inviting applications for the following post:

SENIOR LAW LECTURER   

(LL.B) (PPC)  

CI$90,132 to $107,148 per annum

The Truman Bodden Law School (“TBLS”) is an affiliated institution of both Oxford Brookes University (whose Diploma in Legal Practice is offered following completion of the TBLS Professional Legal Practice Course), and the University of Liverpool (whose LL.B and LL.M degrees are offered through TBLS). All full-time members of the LL.B and LL.M teaching staff are designated as recognized law teachers of the University of Liverpool.

TBLS currently has a Faculty of nine full-time lecturers, and it has an existing enrolment of approximately 80 students.  TBLS forms part of the Portfolio of Legal Affairs, falling under the office of the Cayman Islands’ Attorney General.

Senior Law Lecturer (LL.B) (PPC)

Reporting to the Director of Legal Studies, the Senior Law Lecturer will primarily be responsible for the teaching and personal supervision of law students at an undergraduate level.  Some post graduate teaching will also be an expectation of the role.  This senior role will be undertaking advanced legal research to an international standard, and will establish an in-depth and up-to-date understanding of Cayman Islands and English Law to a national and international level.  The Senior Law Lecturer will also assist the Director and Assistant Director with the administration of the Law School, ensuring the efficient operation of its undergraduate provision.

Applicants must possess:

  • a Bachelor’s degree in Law at a grade 2:1 or above; and
  • a relevant post graduate level qualification in law at Masters level (or above), or a relevant professional legal qualification.

A teaching qualification in post compulsory education is also highly desirable.

Applicants should ideally have ideally 5 (five) years of previous relevant teaching experience at University undergraduate level, and preferably also at post graduate level.  It is also essential that that applicants possess ideally 3 (three) years of administration experience within the Higher Education sector.

Applicants for this role will need to have a subject specialism from the following:  Contract Law, the Law of Evidence, Wills and Succession, Professional Legal Skills.  An established track record of legal research is required, as is legal publication within internationally refereed law journals.  Applicants must be able demonstrate excellence in communication, exercising judgement and be highly organized.   

Where an overseas appointment is made, the employment contract would be for two (2) years in the first instance, with the option to seek renewal.  Leave entitlement will be twenty five (25) working days per annum and benefits include air passages, baggage/freight and relocation allowances, a non-contributory Government Pension Scheme and medical and dental coverage.  Please note that no income tax is payable in the Cayman Islands (currently CI$1.00 = GBP£0.88, US$1.22).
