The Data Science Institute is a new Interdisciplinary Research Centre. Building on the success of City’s Masters programme in Data Science, the Institute will enable ground-breaking applied research in Data Science in the areas of healthcare, sustainable energy, finance, transport, economics and creativity, in close collaboration with industrial partners and government bodies including the NHS, the BBC, the British Library, Technology and Financial institutions, Traffic management, and Research Centres around London and in Europe.

The Institute will be led by academics from the Department of Computer Science within the School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering (MCSE), in close collaboration with programme directors with complementary expertise from all the Schools of the University (MCSE, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Law, and Cass Business School).

The Department is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow who will take an active part in the setting up, consolidation, research and management of the Institute. They will work directly with the leadership team of the Institute to coordinate new joint research bids, organise workshops, seminars and events in data science, establish and maintain communications with industrial partners and government bodies.

The post holder will contribute actively to the research of the Institute in the areas of machine learning, explainable Artificial Intelligence, data visualisation and the ethics of data science.

Person Specification
The appointed candidate will have a PhD; specialist knowledge in one of the areas of the Institute’s research; a track record of research publications in top tier conferences and journals in their area of specialisation and a track record of the acquisition of research funding.
