Applications are invited to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology located at St Mary’s campus, Paddington. The department works on improving health around the world and has a strong track-record of generating cutting-edge research and influencing health policies and programs.

We are seeking a Research Associate with experience in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases and either HIV or non-communicable disease (NCD) epidemiology to work on an exciting new research opportunity at the interface between research, public health and policy. Experience of working with HIV or NCDs in Africa is desirable.

The Research Associate will work on an exciting project at the interface between infectious and non-communicable diseases, heath systems and policy. The project aim is to develop a powerful set of model-based analyses that will help identify health system priorities in light of an ageing population and a rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Zimbabwe, a hyper-endemic HIV setting in Africa. Using data analysis and modelling, the project will contribute to understanding the timing, scale and nature of the changing disease burden, and so inform priorities on how health systems should evolve. Extensive data have been already assembled for this analysis and the model development can make use of the extensive range of models our group has already developed in this area.

The Research Associate post will work closely with the investigators to undertake new research and oversee the operations of the consortium (including organising workshops and writing reports).

Applicants should have a PhD in one of the following areas: infectious disease epidemiology, statistics, mathematics or population biology along with a strong background in modelling, infectious disease epidemiology or population biology. Applicants should be motivated, well-organised and able to work effectively as part of a team.

This is a full time, fixed term post until 30 April 2018. The post holder will be based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington London.
