Job offer in london Research Associate in Palaeo-Environmental Metal Isotope Geochemistry at University College London

University College London – UCL Department of Earth Sciences

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.

We are seeking to appoint a research associate position in isotope geochemistry, to be held at the Department of Earth Sciences at UCL. The ERC-funded project will examine the Li, Mg and Ca isotope compositions of seawater chemistry archives through several short warming and cooling events in the Cenozoic (e.g. PETM, ETM2, Oi-1, mid-Miocene). The goal is to examine the response of biogeochemical cycling to climate change events. The post is funded by the ERC for 30 months in the first instance.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, or thesis submitted subject to examination, in a relevant branch of isotope geochemistry, and a strong background in developing and analysing metal isotope rations in geological materials. Experience in independent running of MC-ICP-MS and/or TIMS mass sepctrometers, and a demonstrable ability to interpret isotopic results in a geological context are essential.
