The appointment will be on UCL Grade Clinical Training Fellow – Speciality Training Registrar. The salary range will be For JDPS: £50,224 per annum. For STr payscale: £36,219 – £49,307 per annum. The appointment will be made to the appropriate payscale depending on the current terms and conditions of the appointee which are linked to the start date of clinical training, inclusive of London Allowance.
Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellowship to investigate the neuroprotective ability of Müller glia using an experimental model of high intraocular pressure.
The UCL Institute of Ophthalmology carries out translational research in well-equipped laboratories and works in close co-operation with Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust. The Institute achieved the highest ratings in the last four Research Assessment Exercises, demonstrating sustained excellence across a wide range of activities from basic sciences to clinically-related translational study. This is an ideal environment for research training.
The Fellow will benefit from state-of-art facilities within the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences and is expected to enrol in PhD training at UCL. The successful candidate will gain experience in translational research as well as in cell and molecular biology and advanced laboratory techniques. The role will involve performing standard molecular biology techniques including RNA/DNA extraction and PCR. The postholder will also carry out electroretinogram assessment of visual function. This project will benefit a clinician who wishes to establish a career as a Clinician Scientist.
The position is available from February 2019 for 3 years in the first instance.
Applicants should hold a medical degree and are expected to have Ophthalmology training at ST3/ST4 Level. Previous laboratory-based research experience is desirable.
