Job offer in Ireland Technician at Queen’s University Belfast

The successful candidate will undertake specialist technical and analytical duties for the diagnostics and clinical research activities of the Precision Medicine Centre of Excellence (PMC). The candidate will also be carrying out experimental and analytical molecular diagnostics as well as tissue based hybridisation investigations and Digital Pathology evaluations. In addition to this they will provide support and perform core laboratory activities for the validation and standardisation of novel procedures, techniques and tests.

This post is a full time contract available until 31st October 2023

The Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) sits within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Precision Medicine Centre (PMC) is a new clinical laboratory bringing together high-throughput genomics, digital pathology and big data analytics in a fully integrated fashion. The PMC aims to accelerate the translation of potentially relevant diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic findings into clinically actionable information by applying state-of-the-art technology in a clinical laboratory environment. Our partnerships and collaborations with industry, academia and healthcare organisations maximises the potential to capitalise on the value of integrated clinical and biomarker information to improve patient’s outcome.

The PMC operates within a structure of two core interconnected sections – Genomics and Tissue Hybridization & Digital Pathology, linked by a Bioinformatics team and supported by a dedicated management team. The PMC, working in partnership with the successful Northern Ireland Biobank (NIB), is integrated in an existing molecular programme honed by successful research grant funding investment of several million, infrastructure programmes and clinical trials.

The successful candidate must have:

  • An academic and/or vocational qualifications at OND/ONC or NVQ level 3 and above in a relevant subject (or equivalent) for example a relevant qualification in Applied Science or relevant health science subject (Biomedical Science, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry).
  • Relevant work experience within a Health Science laboratory that includes clinical specimen processing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CPA/UKAS standards
  • Able to understand and follow SOPs
  • Technical knowledge in own specific or technical specialism.
  • Working knowledge of relevant systems, equipment and processes.

Salary scale: £20,836 to £23,334 per annum (potential to progress to £24,771 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution).
