Job offer in Ireland Research Technician (Image Analyst) at Queen’s University Belfast
The Research Technician (Image Analyst) will undertake technical and analytical duties for clinical and research activities of the PMC. The successful candidate will support experimental and analytical tissue based hybridisation investigations and Digital Pathology evaluations. The Research Technician will provide support and perform core laboratory activities for the validation and standardisation of novel procedures, techniques and tests.

The Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) sits within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Precision Medicine Centre (PMC) is a new clinical laboratory bringing together high-throughput genomics, digital pathology and big data analytics in a fully integrated fashion. The PMC aims to accelerate the translation of potentially relevant diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic findings into clinically actionable information by applying state-of-the-art technology in a clinical laboratory environment. Our partnerships and collaborations with industry, academia and healthcare organisations maximises the potential to capitalise on the value of integrated clinical and biomarker information to improve patient’s outcome.
The PMC operates within a structure of two core interconnected sections – Genomics and Tissue Hybridization & Digital Pathology, linked by a Bioinformatics team and supported by a dedicated management team. The PMC, working in partnership with the successful Northern Ireland Biobank (NIB), is integrated in an existing molecular programme honed by successful research grant funding investment of several million, infrastructure programmes and clinical trials.
The successful candidate must have:
- ONC/OND or NVQ Level 3 in biology, medical laboratory sciences or related subject (or equivalent).
- Relevant laboratory experience.
- Recent relevant experience in molecular biology techniques.
- Experience with IHC and FISH or other hybridisation technologies and/or tissue-based work

Salary scale: £24,028 to £27,831 per annum (potential to progress to £29,514 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution).
