Job offer in Ireland Research Fellow – Population Statistician at Queen’s University Belfast

This exciting position will allow the successful candidate to join the recently established Health Data Research Wales Northern Ireland Substantive Site, one of only six sites in the UK as part an initial overall investment of £54M by Health Data Research UK (HDR-UK). Particular thematic areas include Modernising Public Health and Enabling Precision Medicine.

The successful candidate will become a member of the QUB HDR-Wales Northern Ireland research team assisting Prof Liam Heaney and Professor Frank Kee in a programme of research focused on using electronic health records and public health data-sets to better define determinants and outcomes of respiratory health and wellbeing in the Northern Ireland population, addressing, initially, asthma and associated multi-morbidity. The post will involve the application of hypothesis-driven statistical approaches for discovery and validation of novel phenotypes and predictors of outcomes using large existing population administrative data, clinical registers and electronic health records. Northern Ireland has one of the most developed electronic health records and public health data-sets in the UK, so the applicant will have the opportunity to conduct high quality research that will resonate at local, national and global levels.

The successful candidate must:

  • Have, or about to obtain, a PhD in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, computer science or a related area.
  • Recent, relevant research experience, involving a range of modern statistical approaches relevant to the interrogation of large population based and clinical data-sets

Salary scale: £33,199 – £39,610 per annum (potential to progress to £43,266 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
