Job offer in Ireland Information Compliance Officer at Queen’s University Belfast

The University is required to deal with requests arising from the exercise of statutory rights of access under the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Compliance with each places specific obligations on the University on how requests for information should be handled and processed.

To help deal with the demands arising from the legislation, the University has established an Information Compliance Unit as part of the Registrar’s Office. This unit is responsible for overseeing University compliance with Freedom of Information and Data Protection.

In particular, it is responsible for:

  • Issuing relevant staff guidelines and advice on Records Management
  • Co-ordinating requests for information arising from the Freedom of Information Act and the

Data Protection Act.

The post holder will provide a high quality and professional information compliance and governance service. This will include but not limited to the management of access to information and data subject requests to ensure the University meets its legal obligation to comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act, the General Data Protection Regulation/data protection legislation and the Environmental Information Regulations.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A primary degree or equivalent
  • Relevant administrative experience within a governance and/or compliance environment within a large, diverse organisation.
  • Experience of interpreting complex legislation, providing guidance and practical solutions.
  • High level knowledge of current policy and compliance issues in Higher Education.
  • Understanding of Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Excellent ICT skills including word processing, system design and management, and spreadsheets, report writing.

Anticipated interview date: Tuesday 12 March 2019

Salary scale: £33,199 – £39,610 per annum (potential to progress to £43,266 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
